Anyone who has ever met 16 year old twins Sammy and Sasha Nelson can testify to the unexplainable charisma and energy that radiates (and Rocks!) from their souls, which is usually attributed to adults twice their age. While Sammy and Sasha are mirror image identical twins, they have developed their own separate and dynamic personalities through years of performing, competing and most importantly entertaining audiences all over the US.
Growing up in Pawnee, Illinois, the girls studied and excelled at dance and gymnastics from the age of four. In first grade the family made the big move to Chicago where it soon became obvious that music was Sammy and Sasha’s first true passion. Around this time, the girl’s mother started receiving calls from the grade school music teacher telling her that the girls had amazing voices. What really made their mother and father take notice was one night Sammy and Sasha were practicing piano and their mother yelled upstairs to turn down the radio so they could concentrate on practicing piano. The girls replied that it was them singing and as their mother listened to the natural harmony that only siblings have, she immediately knew it was time to enroll them in singing classes. They have been singing and performing ever since. In addition to singing, the girls are very active in dance, gymnastics, acting, swimming, volleyball, and basketball. They have excelled in everything they do, but continue to push each other to be the best they can be and inspire others to do the same. What sets them apart from the rest of the pack is their musicianship on guitar and piano. Musically, Sammy and Sasha are able to accompany themselves performing and having been songwriting now for years having shown an incredible ability and passion to write songs that truly connect with teenagers.
The girls have garnered lead roles in professional theater in Chicago. They have been contestants on television shows in the United States and England, including finalists on the FOX program American Juniors. They have traveled from city to city and country to country in pursuing their dream of music. Currently, they are taking the music industry by storm and have recently finished their record label demo with producer and co-writer Toby Gad. Gad has worked with such artists as Fergie, Natasha Bedingfield, JoJo, Hannah Montana, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, and The Veronicas.
Sammy and Sasha have already developed a large fan base through the internet. The girls have more than 23,000 My Space friends, their page has been viewed more than half a million times and their songs have been played more than 600,000 times. On YouTube, their videos have had over 950,000 views and in 2006, the girls posted a homemade music video of one of their original songs that became the most viewed video on YouTube for several weeks. The girls love their fans and enjoy those relationships. Sammy and Sasha have made their mark and it won’t be long before radio and television bring these future superstars to the forefront of their musical generation.
